German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund are leading the race to sign Chelsea attacker Timo Werner. This is according to the report from media outlet Fichajes. It was stated that Borussia Dortmund are favourites to sign German star Werner in this summer’s transfer window.
Premier League holders Manchester City paid the £51m release clause needed to trigger the signing of Norwegian star Haaland from Dortmund this summer and Haller was swiftly signed as his replacement. A few weeks after his unveiling as a Borussia Dortmund player, the Ivorian striker was diagnosed with the problem.
Chelsea star Werner has emerged as a transfer target for Borussia Dortmund in recent days. The former RB Leipzig star wants to leave Chelsea this summer to boost his chances of playing a big role for Germany at this year’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar. Werner is not a guaranteed starter at Chelsea despite the loan exit of Belgian international RomeluLukaku.
Things have not worked out as expected for Werner at Chelsea whom he joined from RB Leipzig two seasons ago. The Premier League giants paid around £46.5m to secure his signing from the German club. In his first season at Chelsea, he was far from a guaranteed starter as the club won the Champions League title for the second time by beating Manchester City in the final of the competition. He was also not a guaranteed starter at Chelsea last season.
Apart from Dortmund, Chelsea star Werner has also been linked with a move to Italian Serie A side Juventus. The Old Lady want to boost their attacking options in the final weeks of this summer’s transfer window and the German could be the man for the job.
