Bayern Munich are on the verge of sealing the title in Germany, which will leave other teams like Borussia Dortmund fighting for the second spot. They’ll take upon one of their main contenders for this position – Borussia Mönchengladbach – at home during the weekend. Ahead of the encounter, there is concern that the home team may not have Robert Lewandowski fit for this encounter.
Manager Jurgen Klopp was speaking ahead of the match and he said that he is hoping to have the Polish international in time for this match. Lewandowski, who will be joining Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer, has promised to 100% commitment until he remains with the club. He has been one of the best players this season – despite the collective troubles faced by Dortmund. The 25-year-old is only pipped by Bayern Munich striker Mandžukić to the top of the goalscoring charts. Lewandowski has 15 goals compared to the 16 scored by Mandžukić.
Dortmund have struggled with consistency throughout this season and it has been largely because of injury problems to key players. Marco Reus has also been on the sidelines for much of the season. It is looking unlikely that he will take part in this match according to the manager.
“He trained on his own today (Thursday) but the idea is that he will join group training on Friday. He’s run a bit but, barring a miracle, he won’t be with us on Saturday,” said Klopp. Dortmund were expected to concede the title to Bayern Munich this season after the arrival of Guardiola to the Allianz arena. The former Barcelona man is regarded as one of the best managers in the world. However, none would have expected Dortmund to fall 20 points behind Bayern Munich even before the season has entered into April.
