Less than 2 months are remaining for the 2014 World Cup to kick off in full force and some coaches have already announced their 23 man list of players which will be representing their respective nations and Joachim Low has selected his preliminary team.
Joachim Low has surprised many fans and even players as there a few of newcomers that were mentioned including Shkodran Mustafi, Erik Durm, Andre Hahn, Kevin Vollan, Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka.
The German coach has defended his selection of players by stating that squad needs an injection of young blood.
“We need young dynamic players like those who perhaps only recently played themselves into contention. They can inject fresh impetus into the side. Low said
Low is hoping that he can find the perfect balance and mix of young and veteran players into the team.
“Many players are used to high-pressure situations from playing in the Champions League. They can live with it. Our foreign-based players also profit from establishing themselves abroad. That brings them further on a sporting level. Generally we have a good mix in the squad.” Joachim Low added on.
Mario Gomez has not had a successful season with Fiorentina after sustaining a series of injuries which has left him out of action for an extended period of time which only allowed the 28 years old attacker on making 15 appearances for the Italian team throughout the entire campaign.
“He was injured for seven months, only played 280 minutes since September. So I formed the opinion that he isn’t in a position physically to cope with the conditions in Brazil’’. Low said as he defended his decision of not adding Gomez to his preliminary team.
Germany was pitted in a group along with USA, Ghana and Portugal. The side of Joachim Low is expected to finish the group stages with relative ease.
