DORTMUND DEFENDER LINKED WITH ENGLAND MOVE

Borussia Dortmund defender Antonios Papadopoulos has been seriously linked with a transfer to England. It has been reported that the young player could swap German football for English football this summer. Papadopoulos plays for the u-23s at Dortmund and he’s the subject of interest from two English Championship teams.


German newspaper BILD claimed that Papadopoulos has offers from the Championship duo of Preston North End and Luton Town who were involved in the playoffs before they were eliminated by Huddersfield Town. The Greek defender could leave Borussia Dortmund after one year with the German side. German Bundesliga II club Fortuna Dusseldorf were seriously linked with Papadopoulos, but nothing cane out of the transfer rumours.

Papadopoulos has one year left on his Borussia Dortmund contract and he could be available for a small fee for the likes of Luton Town and Preston North End. A transfer fee of €1.5m has been reported by the aforementioned German media outlet. English Championship football would suit Papadopoulos due to his physical attributes and aggressive style of play.

Borussia Dortmund signed Greek defender Papadopoulos from Hallerscher FC. He had to be promoted to the senior team from the U-23s following the injury crisis with the Marco Rose-led team. Papadopoulos was signed for the U-23 team when he joined from Hallerscher FC. Papadopoulos impressed Rose in pre-season last summer and he was given his first-team debut at Dortmund during the first round tie with Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal also known as the German Cup. The defender went on to make two more appearances for the first team this making it a total of three appearances for the just concluded season. He was on the bench for the first team on several occasions. Papadopoulos played a lot of games for the U-23s as they finished ninth in the third division.
