Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has called for the players to give their fans some festive cheer by performing well in the last few matches of 2014.
Dortmund will be going into a winter break after the league match against Werder Bremen. After having taken only for victories through to the first half of the season, Dortmund find themselves in the relegation zone. Incredibly, the club were in the Champions League final only a couple of years ago and they have had a huge fall from grace. Despite this,Klopp does not appear to be under immediate threat.
Klopp has recognised that the players have not provided enough enjoyment of the fans this season, but he says that they have a great chance to do so in the last few matches of 2014. After having struggled for form in the league throughout this campaign, Dortmund are not the favourites going into tough matches against Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen. The only good aspect has been the impressive form in European competitions. They managed to top the Champions League group ahead of Arsenal and will now be facing Italian outfit Juventus in the last 16 of the competition.
Kevin Grosskreutz is likely to be recalled to the team for the trip to face Wolfsburg.”The last two games of 2014 must be a gift to this awesome club and its fans. The most positive news is that the game (Wednesday`s against Wolfsburg) takes place at our Signal Iduna Park stadium. We must throw everything we have into the game against Juventus, it`s not the easiest opponent, but it could have been worse. He [Grosskreutz] can show on Wednesday that the break has done him some good,” said the Dortmund manager. Klopp has been at Dortmund since 2008 and has guided them to 2 league titles.
